Twist of Lime Abstract: With Color!

I finally got time to add some lime to Twist of Lime. It's a pretty light shade. The colors will fade from very light lime green to a darker lime green on the edges.
I've been thinking about my Intense Aztec painting. The picture will be mostly earth tones, with some turquoise or teal for contrast. I'm just trying to decide how much contrast to include. I'm also trying to decide if I want to try some textured elements within the earth tone sections. Some nepheline or pumice gel might add some interest to the earthtone sections.
Thanks for looking!

Abstract Acrylic Painting: Twist of Lime - black work done

Here's the next installment for my Twist of Lime painting. Not very much lime at the moment, but that's coming soon. Now that the black has been placed, the lime will go where the white has been left.

The edges are painted to match!

Thanks for looking,

Tom

Twist of Lime update

Here's the newest update for Twist of Lime! I hope you like it.

The color will come later, though it is looking pretty good as is. We'll see how the lime color looks once I start to apply it.

Thanks for looking!

Twist of Lime in Progress

Here's what Twist of Lime looks like at the moment. I'm just filling in the dead space with black. Eventually I will get to adding the bright colors.
It's looking better than I thought as just a black and white abstract. Now I'm getting other ideas...

A few more older pics...

This picture is called Fairy of the Mushrooms. It is colored pencil on stonehenge paper and approximately 10" by 12".

This is an untitled yin yang I did as an experiment. Colored pencil on paper, approximately 10" by 10".

This is an acrylic painting on a 24" by 30" canvas. The white areas on the wings are iridescent over the background. It changes intensity depending on the lighting. It's simply called Butterfly.

I'm going to try to replicate the butterfly on a bigger canvas.

Current projects Underway:

To the left is my start on Twist of Lime. It doesn't look like much at the moment. I'll be filling in the rest of the black undercoating then adding the lime colors after.

To the right is my underpainting for The Storm II. A new version of the colored pencil drawing The Storm. As seen on a previous blog entry.

Enjoy!

Art from the Past

I thought I would post some of my art:
This is called Dragon Coils.
It was created with prismacolor colored pencil on paper, and is approximately 10" by 10". I finished it late last year.

This is a painting I completed quite a while ago. It is acrylic paint on canvas, 16" by 20".
It also became the company logo for my wife's fiber art business.

This is a colored pencil drawing called Spiral Yin Yang.

It was completed several years back. I am hoping to re-create this in acrylic paint. It is approximately 16" by 16" and done with prismacolor pencils on grey paper.

I hope you liked these examples. I will post more later.

First blog entry!

Hi to everyone. This blog is to show off my artwork. My name is Tom Threlkeld, and most of my art is acrylic paint or colored pencil. Previously colored pencils were my medium of choice, but there are a few limitations associated with colored pencils that drove me to acrylics. Since learning how to properly blend in acrylics, I can't see myself going back.

My projects are usually abstract, though I have dabbled in realism from time to time. I enjoy the interplay of colors and swirling shapes.

My current projects include:
A remake of a colored pencil drawing called The Storm in acrylic paint.
An acrylic painting with lime and black, possibly named Twist of Lime.
An acrylic painting with browns and turquoise, possibly named Intense Aztec.
